We're so excited to announce that our girl, Jamie Grace, will be featured in the next issue of Crown of Beauty Magazine! (You can read her full interview for free, in the Glow Issue!) It was such a blessing to be able to catch up with this busy lady!
Crown of Beauty: When did your passion for music first begin?
Jamie: My parents are pastors as well as musicians. My Dad plays the drums and my Mom sings and traveled as a Southern Gospel singer in the late 90's and early 2000's. My sister Morgan and I often opened up for her singing old hymns and later with some of our favorite Christian radio hits.
I was always so eager to hop on stage sing for everyone! Whether it was my Mom’s concert, as the volunteer for the VBS karaoke show, or my own headlining show in the living room. Twenty something years later I can truly say nothing’s changed. Haha!
Crown of Beauty: Who was your hero as a kid? Who did you look up to?
Jamie: Okay, cliche’/cheesy/sappiness ahead - the answer is, my family. I was a mess as a kid. All kind of emotional all of the time. I was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome (and OCD, ADHD and Anxiety) at age 11 and it completely turned my world upside down. I struggled physically, academically, spiritually, emotionally and socially. (Remember when I was like, “I was a mess…”)
Ultimately I am positive that it was nothing but the Lord that I came out of a long depression, and I know that He sent my family to be significant parts of that. At one point I was stuck in the house. All of the time. I remember my Mom painting the hallway blue. Bright blue. She figured I couldn’t see the sky outside, so she would bring it to me.
When my illness would take it’s toll on me at night, my Dad would stay up late at night dancing around my room to smooth jazz renditions of upbeat standards until I laughed my tears away. And in the midst of every bully, my sister Morgan continued to invest in me not only as a sister, but as my only friend. I wouldn’t be who I am without the three of them. I have no idea how they did it, but they did...
Are you a Jamie Grace fan?! :D
