Positive Thinking: Transforming Power

By Livy Jarmusch

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will test and approve God's will- His good, pleasing and perfect will.”
---Romans 12:2

Do you know what the word transform means? It means to change energy from one kind to another, to change an electrical current into one of different voltage.

God desires to give you a new kind of energy. The same energy that lights up the stars at midnight. He wants to infuse you with strength and purity! He wants to transform everything that has been sick and tried, weak and disgusting, into something gloriously new. He wants you to shine like a glow-stick on the beach.
He wants your heart to explode with God's goodness, like fireworks on the fourth of July. He wants to set you up like dynamite, ready to light up this world for Him!

How does a girl transform and renew her mind with this new kind of voltage called God's grace? It comes from the electrical current of the living Word. That's right, it comes from your Bible.

God's Word is like a seed. Sometimes it seems small and maybe even unimportant. But sewing time into reading God's Word is the most vital and world changing thing you can possibly do. Why? Because it's HIS Words that bring the fire and the power to change this world. You can't change anything on your own, in your human strength.
But with God, and His Word living inside of you, you can do everything!

Girl, everything that you
think and everything that you do has immeasurable potential and power. When you connect with God, clinging Your heart to His, renewing your mind in His Word, soaking in His presence, asking Him to do all He wishes and surrendering your very self? Woah, look out world. There will be no force that can stop you.

We have all entered a new school year. There are papers to be written, deadlines to be met, and we're surrounded with seemingly never-ending check-lists!

But I strongly urge and challenge you NOT to neglect God's Word this school year. Again, it might seem trivial and unimportant...but only the smallest seeds give birth to the greatest world-changing things. Invest time into the Word, and you will be blown away by what God does in your heart and mind. God's Word can turn your kryptonite into dynamite. Don't try to live this life without His Word! Because Jesus
is the Word.

I hope this post will encourage you to turn off the computer, silence your cell phone, and reach for your Bible to spend time with the King.

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
    whatever they do prospers."

The Garden of My Mind

Inspired by 2 Corinthians 10:3, Romans 12:2, John 8:32,
Mark 4:24, & Psalm 1

Every thought drops a seed,
By God's grace I can lead,
Every rebel thought into captivity,
Down prostrate before the King,
Divine power from the Holy Spirit,
Trust in Him and He will do it,
Help me to use my authority,
To demolish strongholds, lies and crooked things,
Proud weeds that prop themselves up,
Bitterly take root in soil that's puffed up,

But these wild weapons will not remain,
They will not fulfill the purpose for which they came,
I command all thoughts into obedience,
Yielding to Christ and His spirit alone,
I cast all pride before His throne,
I conform no longer for this mind was made to be,
Constantly renewed, all bitter turned to sweet,
My mental energy is radically changed,
No longer held back with apathetic chains,
By the fruitful flower of Christ in me,
He electrified and birthed many seeds in me,

Seeds of life, joy, beauty and peace,
Seeds of redemption and liberty,
Wash my mind with the water of the Word,

And soon these seeds will be homes for the birds,
A place to rest, perch and play,
A mighty fruit tree, prosperous each day,
Intimately connected, intermingled with the Vine,
This garden of God's glory is the garden of my mind.
